After a bye week last week your Gators return to The Swamp tonight for the second round of the State Playoffs to take on Southwest Georgia.  The Gators look to keep their winning streak going to advance to the next round and get one step closer to a State Championship.  Below is an excerpt from Coach Ratliff’s letter this week:

PLAYOFFS!  They are finally here, and the road to Mercer goes through the SWAMP!

Southwest Georgia visits the SWAMP Friday night in a second-round playoff match-up.  They defeated Briarwood this past Friday night 50-12.

Southwest Georgia is the #2 seed from Region 3AA.  They have a good football team.  I was very impressed with them this past Friday.  The coaching staff traveled to Damascus to scout them in person.  THEY ARE AS ADVERTISED!

They are a physical team with very talented skill players.  Coach McFathers does an excellent job of getting his team ready to play.  They are fundamentally sound and execute their system.  This will be a great football game

In order for us to be ready, we must have a great week of practice.  It will be hard for us to simulate what they do, but we must get close.  Our scout team will play a big part in getting us ready to play.  As a team, we must practice hard to get the results that we expect on Friday night!

The weather should finally feel like football weather.  I am expecting it to be cold and rainy for most of the week.  Players should be prepared for the weather conditions.

As for our schedule, we will be on our regular routine.  On Friday, we will have breakfast at Terry Embry’s at 7am.  For lunch, the school will be having its annual Thanksgiving feast.  A pre-game meal will be served at 3:45pm.

At 7:10pm, our seniors will be recognized.  Coach Douglas should be contacting you senior parents about the recognition ceremony.

We have a tremendous opportunity to take another step toward returning to Mercer.  Southwest Georgia will be a big challenge.  Gatewood Accepts The Arena!

See you all Friday Night in the SWAMP!
