GOAL Scholarship

Do you pay Georgia state taxes?  Would you like to redirect a portion of those taxes to Gatewood instead of the state of Georgia?

The Georgia Education Expense Credit (House Bill 1133), Georgia has joined the five other states that are using tax credit scholarship programs to provide children from low-income families greater opportunities for access to learning at private institutions like Gatewood.

Gatewood School has just been approved as Qualified School, meeting all the necessary requirements as defined by the State of Georgia. Participation in this program will provide additional financial resources to Gatewood’s financial aid program available to new students and their families. We are working together with the Georgia “GOAL” Scholarship Program, a state-approved student scholarship organization.

Here’s how to get started redirecting your tax dollars:

Step 1. Redirect your tax dollars to Gatewood through the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program

You may complete the paperwork here.  Make sure to list Gatewood Schools in the Donor School.  If you prefer to complete a paper copy, you may download the paperwork by click here.  Paper forms may be submitted to Gatewood Schools, 139 Phillips Drive, Eatonton, GA 31024 or faxed to GOAL at 877.478.4625.  Gatewood Schools will notify you as soon as you have been approved for the tax credit.  You will have 60 days from the date of the Georgia Department of Revenue’s approval date to submit your payment to GOAL.

Step 2. Claim the credit

When you file your income tax returns in 2016, you will receive a credit against your Georgia income taxes for the amount of your contribution and a charitable deduction on your federal income taxes. You may still file your returns electronically if you elect to take this credit.

GOAL will send you a Form IT-QEE-SSO1 contribution acknowledgement form to be filed with your taxes

GOAL will send taxpayer filing guidance early next year and/or will post taxpayer filing guidance on its website

Timing / Deadline

The sooner you contribute the better, as the tax credits for the 2016 tax year are going fast!  GOAL began taking 2016 tax credits in June of 2015.  Each credit will be submitted in the order it was received to the Georgia Department of Revenue on the first day of business in 2016.

GOAL’s Impact at Gatewood

For the 2015-2016 school year, Gatewood is proud to have 57 GOAL Scholarship Recipients.  Of those students, 79% are in grades 5 or below.  The average recipient has been at Gatewood for three years.  49% of recipients are female and 51% are male.
