Vocal Music/Instrumentation

Vocal music and instrumentation is offered at Gatewood for the purpose of enriching students’ lives through the great medium of music. During music classes, lower school students learn the basics of ukulele, recorder, and drums. All students take part in class musical performances during the school year and perform singing events such as Grandparents’ Day and Veterans’ Day celebrations.

Students are encouraged to participate in music throughout middle and high school. Vocalists and pianists have been participating in Literary events since the beginning of Gatewood and include solos, girls trio, boys quartet, and piano competitions. Students have the opportunity to audition to sing the National Anthem at football and basketball games and visit to entertain nursing home patients during the school year.

Students in the vocal music program learn the many aspects of professional singing through rehearsals and performances. Everything from music notation and sight reading to ear training will be learned. After school group lessons in piano and guitar are also available.
